Jesus & Montana
By: Chesney Schultz
This blog post is about my trip to Browning, Montana, with Joey Potter Missions and FCA, Montana. This blog is super important because of the effect it had not only on my life, but on other people’s lives whom I had the pleasure of meeting. It was an incredible experience getting to share my faith and just show everybody else the type of love that Jesus shows me. It truly was a special once-in-a-lifetime experience that I can’t wait to do again.
I’ve known Joey Potter since I was probably about 10 or 11 years old. I met him at another summer camp that my family has gone to every year since I was a baby. Once I got old enough, probably about 13 years old, I started working at the camp. Over the summers, I was donating part of my income to Joey Potter missions. Joey was very eager to give me many opportunities to go on mission trips. Unfortunately, due to my role in academics and athletics, I had never been able to make it happen until the summer of 2026.
Joey allowed my boyfriend and me to go to Browning, Montana, and visit the Blackfeet reservation. And of course, we said yes. They prepared us to go, and we researched the Blackfeet’s history and what it was like to live on a reservation. I don’t think all of the research in the world could’ve prepared me for this trip. I felt very blessed to be going and was praying constantly.
Upon arrival, I have truly never met a more hospitable and generous community. It was so nice to get to learn about everything that they did and went through in their day-to-day lives. We got some hands-on experience on the reservation, helping on a farm, and let me tell you, if you’ve never had the opportunity to help out on a farm, it is hard work, but it is so rewarding.
We got to connect with all of the kids who attend the Browning school district. We got to teach them about our love for athletics as current college athletes, but more importantly, share with them the love that Jesus shows us. And it was so amazing to see the love that we received from them in return. We worked alongside two FCA Montana reps who we have connected with and made incredible relationships with, along with a two-time NFL Super Bowl champion, an amazing football coach from Maryland, and, of course, Joey Potter.
Getting to watch Joey Potter interact with all of the people on the reservation was incredible. The immediate trust that they had towards Joey was something that I aspired to gain as well, and I feel like by my the end of my trip I had succeeded in that. After lots of prayer and love, I hope that the children that we helped coach and teach were truly affected by the love that we got to pour into them. It’s such a special experience getting to pour into somebody, not to mention all of the kids we got to pour into.
Overall, it was such an incredible experience, getting to go on this mission trip with Joey Potter to the Blackfeet reservation in Browning, Montana. We learned so much about life on a reservation, and we got to learn so much about the Blackfeet culture and their history. Getting to show all of these kids so much love was truly once in a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I can’t wait to go back next year. I’ll be praying for Joey Potter missions. All of the people who helped us on this trip, and of course the kids of Browning, Montana.
